Graham was not only my next-door neighbour for 15 years but also my friend and I remember him for his wit and sense of humour. Graham’s love of golf and Arsenal was apparent to all that knew him well. Graham used to tell me how his dad used to take him to football matches at Highbury. Graham used to give me the Arsenal team news and what he thought of the team selection and our chances of winning. I do miss that! I miss our daily communication and no longer receiving text messages from Graham.
One of Graham’s favourite food was samosas. He would ask me “When are you going to be making your samosas?”. When I would take them round, he would be so pleased and say, “Much better than Waitrose”.
Graham introduced me to golf. He gave me a few golf training sessions. Told me “I was a natural”. However, I think he probably said that to make me feel good. Although he did not admit it, Graham was competitive when it came to golf. When his golfing colleagues came and presented him with the “Graham Try Captains Day Claret Jug” they were doing in his honour, Graham was so pleased with the gesture. He told me he had been a member of that golf club for 25 years and captain for two.
With regards to clothing, Graham totally disliked branded goods. Two years ago, when we were going on a family holiday to Florida, I asked Graham if he wanted me to get him any designer clothes as the boys would be spending a lot of time in the shopping malls buying designer labels. Graham was mortified and said he would never wear a designer brand and if I dare buy him one, he will remove the designer label. Graham was a true gentleman and will be hugely missed by all of us.
